LONG MOVEMENT GEAR LIST
This heat map template is similar to those used by lightweight backpackers and back country hunters to prioritize weight and optimize loads. We have adopted this tool for use with competitions that include a long movement, like a run-n-gun or ruck event. Optimize your gear and weight to minimize the load you carry.
There is some front end work; you'll need to weigh each piece of your planned equipment so that you can fine tune the weights. Once this is complete, you'll be able to start figuring out how to lighten the load.
For example, do you NEED to bring a spotting scope on your ruck, or will your rifle scope work for this competition? How much weight do your snacks add? How can you carry your water in a lighter weight container?
Use this template to see how much weight you can cut from your gear before your time starts. Remember, ounces equal pounds, and pounds equal pain!
